2020 Supreme Court Election updates

On April 26, Justice Benham announced that he will retire at the end of his current term, leaving his seat open for a statewide non-partisan election in May 2020.

  • Judge Sarah Doyle of the Georgia Court of Appeals was the first to announce her candidacy, per Katheryn Tucker of the Daily Report. (April 26)
  • On April 29, Former U.S. Representative John Barrow announced he would join the race, per Katheryn Tucker writes for the Daily Report. (April 29)
  • Tabitha Ponder Beckford, insurance defense counsel and staffer of the Georgia Judicial Council's Access to Justice Committee, will run for the Court of Appeals seat vacated by Judge Doyle. Per the Moultrie Observer. (May 25)

  • Bill Rankin writes for the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Beth Beskin has announced her candidacy for the seat. (September 14)
  • Judge Horace Johnson of the Alcovy Circuit Superior Court announced that he will join the race for Justice Benham's seat, per the Daily Report. (October 1)
